ARTIST BIO

My background is a Higher Diploma of Teaching - Secondary Art and Craft . I majored in Textiles and taught Graphic Communications, Art and Textiles to students in Years 7-11 for nine years before travelling overseas to see every gallery, painting, sculpture, cathederal or work of art that had been in the textbooks !

It wasn't until eight years ago that I decided to take up painting and joined the Brighton Art Society to learn how to paint again. I began with oils and then discovered acrylics and have continued to paint with them since. I have  sold at Camberwell, Bayside, Mornington Art Shows, Brighton Art Society , the Artist Group exhibitons and through Sinc Homewares in Beaumaris and The Bedspread Shop Malvern.

Three years ago I joined  Anne Espositos   " The Artists Group " in Port Melbourne,  a small group of approximately 30 local artists. I attend weekly and have found it to be very rewarding as here experimentation with techniques and subject matter is encouraged. I have explored texture, collage , ink , metallic and acrylic painting techniques.

I have always enjoyed painting on large canvases because it allows so much freedom but it is not without it's challenges.

My subject matter continually changes from nudes, landscapes, still lifes, collage, to abstract paintings. Once my subject matter has been decided, I start with a preconceived idea of how I am going to paint it but as soon as I apply the paint, a brushstroke,  a colour selection, some texture or a shape appears on the canvas and I find I'm pulled in another directions so I just follow my instincts and go with it and find that the painting becomes an ever changing canvas until I am happy with it.

I love working with colour...the choice is endless ! I hope the viewer finds it as uplifting as I do painting all the beautiful colours that we see around us everyday
