Barbara O’Brien, Artist, Frankston South, Victoria
Barbara was born in Victoria, growing up the bayside suburb of Sandringham and has lived in Frankston South for the past 24 years. She has always been interested in art, as far back as her high school days, but never found the time to devote to serious painting due to a 35 year career in the computer industry. Taking up art again was top of her “to do” list when she retired in 2006. Barbara joined Peninsula Arts Society in 2006, served on the committee in various roles from 2009-2011 and was President of Peninsula Arts Society in 2012.
Barbara began with learning pastels with Jacqueline Long at PAS, and continued to learn pastel application and colour theory in Catherine Hamilton’s classes. Barbara is passionate about seascapes and landscapes, and loves to capture the soft lights of seascapes and the contrasting drama of Australian “outback” scenes. On her many travels with husband Carl, Barbara has a wealth of material for subject matter from all over Australia and many overseas countries.
In 2013, Barbara started using Acrylics which has opened up a whole new world of colour and texture.
