ARTIST BIO

Born (1982) in Melbourne, Australia, James Caffyn has had a love of drawing from a young age.  After spending 10 months in classical training at The Academy of Realist Art (Toronto), the artist has devoted himself to the study of the old masters from the 19th Century French Academies such as Jules LeFebvre, Gerome, Ingres, Bonnat and Delaroche. He believes that Classical Art, which had been evolving since the Renaissance, reached perfection through the French school, which mainly focussed on the figure and narrative with realistic depictions of nature. 

It is through this tradition that James bases his time and studies, honing his skills to create figurative art, depicting history, still life and landscapes.

Working as a professional artist on the Mornington Peninsula, James continues to be exhibited in shows and art prizes around Australia whilst teaching privately. If you wish to purchase a work or contact the artist for commision, you can do so at jimcaffyn@hotmail.com.
