ARTIST BIO

MOYRA LE BLANC SMITH - NATURALART

Moyra has a passion for painting the Australian Bush. She loves everything about the Australian landscape, whether it’s the beautiful greens of the ferns and paddocks of the Otways Ranges near her home, or the turquoise water and creamy coloured sand of Australia’s beaches. The reds, ochres and soft greens of the outback to gnarled old gum trees clinging to life on a creek bank or reflected in water are a constant source of inspiration.

The garden too, is a great place to find colours, textures and shapes and flowers are often painted outside.

For the past 17 years, Moyra has been painting and loves to experiment with new ideas, new technologies in paint chemistry, colour mixing, design principles, subject matter and more. The strong, vibrant colours of Australia’s outback under a bright cerulean blue sky is one of the most loved subjects. The light and colour combinations of red rocks, blue sky, gum trees and reflections in water, along with Australian animals and birds are special favourites.

A love of plein air (outdoors) painting has developed whilst camping out around Australia. Moyra finds the experience of painting outdoors overwhelms the senses and enables colours and shapes to be captured in a way that is less possible in the studio. So she aims to increasingly spend more time painting outdoors. Highlighting the fragility of our natural world and the need to preserve it for future generations is Moyra's goal. With the constant challenge of striving to capture the essence of the Australian bush she hopes that by painting natural subjects of great beauty she can help to bring an awareness of the environmental concerns facing Australia.

Moyra works in oil paint as she loves the colours, textures and 'feel' of the paint. The landscapes and gum trees are done in traditional oil painting style. Continuously researching new ideas and trying different techniques, compositions, subjects, and colours, Moyra's style is always evolving. Her home/gallery is located on the Bellarine Peninsula near Geelong in Victoria, Australia.
